TERRORISM
A terrorist is a person who seeks to create fear and panic through violence. He kills people, damages buildings and destroys public property by arranging bomb-blasts at public places and thickly populated areas. All these destructive and disrupting activities are organised by a terrorist in order to gain his own ends or the ends of the organisation to which he belongs. There is usually two kinds of terrorism-criminal and political. Criminal terrorism indulges in kidnappings and killings in order to extort huge amounts of money by way of ransom. Sometimes politicians also hire criminal terrorists to get their opponents eliminated. Thus criminal terrorism gets into truck with politics and in this process often the criminals become politicians and thus politics is criminalised. The most recent example of criminalism in politics is that of Bihar's Minister for Animal Husbandry, Ramashray Sahani who has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder by a fasttrack court in Samastipur on July 18,2002.
Terrorism today is a world-wide phenomenon. It has assumed international proportions breaking all barriers of borders and lines of control. It is present in the middle-east and in many countries of Europe. It is present in the United Kingdom and has even crossed the Atlantic to reach the U.S.A. which was considered a safe country and also a safe place for world terrorists. This fact became clear on September 11, 2001 when the Twin Towers in New York were attacked by two guided aeroplanes destroying completely the upper five storeys of these buildings and killing thousands of innocent people. These attacks were, carried out by the Talibans under the leadership of Osama Bin Laden who had his hide-out headquarters in Afghanistan. As a retaliatory measure, America sent its forces to Afghanistan to catch hold of Bin Laden and in the process flushed out Talibans who had captured almost the entire country.
India has suffered at the hands of terrorists immeasurable loss of men and materials right from partititon of the country. Militants and infiltrators from across the border have been striking continually in Jammu and Kashmir.
There are several militant organisations like Lashkar-e-Tayeba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Hizb-e-Islami, etc., which carry out terrorist attacks on indian territory. These organisations are based in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir and are funded by that country through I.S.I. and other Pakistani agencies. The terrorists are trained in terrorist training camps located across the border. The Indian Government on July 18, 2002, stated that 70 to 80 terrorist training camps are still operational in Pakistan occupied Kashmir and in Pakistan. According to Indian Army estimates, 97 terrorists trained at these camps have infiltrated into Jammu and Kashmir in June (2002) alone. We can very well imagine the number of the terrorists crossing the border over all the past years to kill and destroy.
Essay on Internet
There has been no let up in Pakistan sponsored terrorism against India. Let us hope good sense prevails over Pakistan and it heeds to its own promises to America of permanent end to terrorist infiltration.
Thanks / धन्यवाद 😉
