DEMOCRACY

Indian Democracy is 64 years old, and the 16th Lok-Sabha is d re-elected last year. Democracy has been defined as a form of Government an n which the sovereign power rests in the hands of the people. The exercise their sovereignty either directly or indirectly through their elected representatives.

Indian Democracy is, no doubt, vibrant. What is doing the greatest harm to India's politics is the politics of voting. The unscrupulous leaders would not hesitate to push India into an orgy of sectarian or communal violence, which helps them to win the election. Political equations are determined and people's gullibility is prostituted. Those who want to live in peace and amenity are incited to fight against one another by the selfish and  unscrupulous politicians. National sentiment is illusioned in its absence among most of our people, which is a great hurdle in the way of national unity and integration.

Unfortunately we are witnessing at present the disruptive tendencies again raising their heads. Communalism which we inherited from the British days has now assumed more grievious form. Hardly a month passes and we hear the outbreak of communal or class violence in some part of the country or the other. Regionalism is another disintegrating factor which threatens our national unity and territorial integrity. Some activists are in contact with foreign governments and are financed by them. They even function as traitors and fifth columnists. For a few pieces of silver they would pass on most confidential information to foreign agencies involving national defence.

Linguism and casteism are yet other disintegrating factors in the life of India. Often people would fight and sacrifice their lives in the name of language and caste. These are made worse by the erstwhile imperialist countries which would not like India to make progress and be strong.

Even during the brief span of our lives we have seen two forces at play in India and the world at large- the forces of constructive and creative effort and the forces of destruction. Which will triumph in the end? This is a vital question for each one of us, and, more specially, for those from whom the leaders of the nation will be drawn, and on whom the burden of tomorrow will fall.

Let us know about our national objective. We aim to a strong, free and democratic India, where every citizen has an equal place and full opportunity of growth and service. In such an Indian communalism, separation, isolation, untouchability, bigotry and exploitation of man by man have no place, and where religion is free, it is not allowed to interfere with the political and economic aspects of a nation's life.

Democracy in India has been relatively more successful as compared to many Asian and African countries which gained independence almost at the same time India did. India, achieved freedom, and since then she has emerged as vibrant democracy.

Essay on Internet

There is no reason why democracy should not succeed in India. India is a land of diversity. A long process of history has made India a gigantic motherland of many races, tribes, linguistic groups and religious communities which exhibit a fascinating mosaic of racial intermingling of cultural inter mingling and co-existence of varied belief patterns. In view of this diversity it is essential that everyone, irrespective of religion, caste, sex and language must be given equal opportunities. This can happen only if we continue with the democratic system of governance.

Socio-economic justice is essential if India has to emerge as a strong democracy in the true sense of the term. A genuine democratic system can only emerge as a consequence of a thorough socio-economic and political transformation which remains a major unfinished task of our times and a great challenge for the future.

Essay on National integration

India is the world's largest Democracy with a huge amount spent every five years on the election. Democracy is the core of India's very existence; the values which India holds are very dear.

Democracy is literally in shambles in the country with a lot of the people abstaining from voting. With a lot of incidents of booth capturing and bribing on every election is becoming very common. It is an uphill job for democracy to survive.

Democracy would not be able to survive for long if things continue to happen in the same manner. It is the responsibility of every Indian to uphold the spirit of democracy and freedom for which so many people sacrificed their lives. Let every Indian come forward to save India.
